A Deep, Bone-Etching Scar

I was Gu Lin’s lover for three years, his stand-in for his first love. He sheltered me from the storm, but also gave me scars that cut to the bone. The day Wen Wan came back, he gripped my chin and said, “The real deal is back. It’s time for you to step aside.” I nodded obediently and handed him a cancer diagnosis and a paternity test. “What a coincidence. She was your stand-in for three years, too.” “Your beloved moonlight was the one standing in for me before I lost my memory in that car accident.”
