He goes undercover in the palace, only to be assigned as a "boredom cure" for the cold and alluring Empress Dowager Zhao Ji.

But Qin Ming soon discovers that this woman keeps sneaking into his room in the middle of the night, and is always trying to make him drink poisoned wine!

So...

He grabs the empress dowager by the wrist and chuckles in her ear: "Your Majesty, this poison of yours... isn't potent enough."

When Lü Buwei sends assassins after him...

Qin Ming hangs the killers at the entrance to Zhao Ji's bedchamber. "A wind chime for Your Majesty. Do you like it?"

When Lao Ai mocks him for rising through the ranks by relying on women...

Qin Ming casually tosses out the deed to Great Qin's first steelworks. "Sorry, but every weapon in the country bears the Qin name now."

Years later,

Ying Zheng unifies the world and points his sword at Rome. "What reward would you like, sir?"

Qin Ming wraps an arm around Zhao Ji's slender waist and smiles.

"Call me Dad."

Ying Zheng is overjoyed. "How is this just a way to cure boredom? You've handed me an empire!"
