Apocalyptic Sweetheart: Raising a Child Together in Chang'an

“Mother, they say we’re ‘two-legged sheep.’”

Xiaotang clutched Su Zhao’s sleeve. Blood still stained her fingertips from when she had just shielded her from a blade.

The Great Chu dynasty had enjoyed a century of peace, but the secret excavation of a “water-calming spirit vein” turned it into a hellscape stretching across a thousand miles of barren land. A plague of corpses swept past the thatched huts, refugees raised torches, and even the Su residence burned to ashes.

But Su Zhao wasn’t afraid. She knew farming and medicine. Xiaotang wasn’t afraid either. She was a child who spoke her mind:

“Uncle, you cough just like our old yellow dog! My mother can cure you!”

“Big Sis, I’ll keep an eye on the food you hid in the haystack.”

Then, on a snowy night, they warmed the cold and weary gatekeeper Pei Yan back to life. He looked at the half a roasted sweet potato tucked in Xiaotang’s arms and said, “People like you can never be burned away.”

When the conspirators finally turned their blades toward the new shoots growing on the scorched earth, just watch:

How a child’s innocence will pierce the darkness,

How resilience will weave a path to life,

How a hero will protect the people with his blood.

In this world, someone must stand guard over Chang’an.
