- The power suddenly goes out on the night before his manuscript is due. Qi Lin ventures into an old basement rumored to be haunted to check the circuit breaker.

- In the basement, he finds an ancient coffin covered in runes. Curiosity gets the better of him, and when he opens it, a female corpse dressed in bridal robes suddenly opens her eyes.

- Qi Lin scrambles back to his room, only to find the corpse sitting at his bedside. She calls herself “Yan Ruyu” and claims to have been his wife in a previous life.

- Just as Qi Lin thinks he’s doomed, Yan Ruyu hands him a “Keep Your Husband and Eat Well Contract” covered in modern writing.
