The Little Shopkeeper of Chang'an

Modern Michelin-starred chef Su Yutang transmigrates into the High Tang era as the daughter of a condemned official. Using her modern culinary know-how, she sparks a food revolution in Chang'an. The cold-faced Prince of Jingnan, Li Xuanye, solves cases and hunts criminals by day, then sneaks around for midnight snacks, his taste buds won over by her spicy strips. From breaking a case with stinky tofu in the prison to turning the tide on the battlefield with roujiamo, Su Yutang saves the heir with hot pot, shakes up the liquor trade with iced drinks, and mocks palace scheming with tofu pudding. But then she discovers that her family's secret recipe shares its origins with the Turks' poisonous cuisine. When the dark dishes of a princess sent to marry into the dynasty threaten the realm, she pits a thousand-table feast against a poisoning plot, using bubbling hot pot to boil away poisoned wine. The Prince of Jingnan gives up his title to work as her waiter, and together they write a legend of “food as the foundation of governance,” trading naan and instant noodles along the way. This culinary revolution spanning a thousand years ultimately breaks down class barriers with the warmth of everyday life.
