Lu Jiuming, the orphaned son of a medicine merchant, receives his father's effects: half of a bronze tiger tally engraved with the words “Yellow Springs,” along with a note saying his mother did not die in childbirth.
He follows a hunchbacked beggar into the mountains of western Hunan, where he witnesses the eerie sight of a paper effigy wedding procession and a living corpse carrying a coffin.
He meets A Ruo, a Miao witch, and discovers that the tally is the key to opening the “Nether Ruins” and is connected to the Watchmen, an organization that vanished thirty years ago.
A journey full of strange tales and wondrous encounters!
