The Bamboo Immortal's Cultivation Handbook

In a cellar where Yusun Village’s specialty, pickled bamboo shoots, is made, a bamboo shoot named Xun Xiaozhu suddenly gains sentience. It discovers that it and its companions are about to be turned into pickled shoots, and summons the energy of heaven and earth to escape at the last possible moment.

Xun Xiaozhu flees into the mountains and encounters Qing Huang Gong, an old bamboo immortal living in seclusion. It learns that it gained its spirit after absorbing three hundred years of the sun and moon’s essence, and begins studying the most basic ways to sense spiritual energy under the old immortal’s guidance. In secret, Xun Xiaozhu helps Granny Lin, a poor bamboo-shoot gatherer, and her family, using its meager spiritual power to improve their bamboo grove. It befriends Lin Shuiqin, the granddaughter of the Lin family, and comes to understand the true meaning of cultivation through helping others.
