Lin Wei, a modern-day doctor, transmigrated into the Qing imperial harem and became a palace maid named Wan’er. With her exceptional medical skills and modern knowledge, she helped the young lady Lan’er stand out in the imperial selection and repeatedly helped her escape danger amid the harem’s rivalries. Wan’er used her medical skills to win people over and help Lan’er rise to the rank of consort and give birth to a prince. Faced with court intrigues and a struggle for the throne, Wan’er and Lan’er stood united as sisters and planned the Xinyou Coup. In the end, they helped Lan’er rise to the pinnacle of power and become Empress Dowager Cixi, ushering in an era of rule from behind the curtain. Wan’er, too, retired after completing her mission, devoting herself to healing the world and keeping her compassionate heart alive.
