A wuxia novel blending the history of science and technology with a prose style. Roughly speaking, it is a prose novel like Border Town, set against the Ming-Qing transition like The Sword Stained with Royal Blood. This is a slow-paced story.
Note:
(1) While researching the history of science and technology in my humble work, The Pearl Beyond the Pass, I explored several areas. First, I focused on classic works of ancient technological history, such as The Exploitation of the Works of Nature. Second, I delved into Sichuan Taoism and the Zhu Xi school of Fujian, tracing their role as intellectual wellsprings and vehicles for the development of ancient technological history. Third, I focused on China's unique history of developing gunpowder and medicinal herbs for both military and medical use. Fourth, I focused on rockets, cannons, and the Mawei Shipyard, all related to flight, and connected them to Fuzhou's strong presence in today's low-altitude economy and drone industry. In short, this prose-style novel, reminiscent of Border Town, is a wuxia story set against the Ming-Qing backdrop of The Sword Stained with Royal Blood, infused with vivid and extensive elements from the history of science and technology. Drawing on the collection at the Nanhu Campus Library of Northeastern University, this is an attempt at popular science writing in the fields of science and engineering, dedicated to the university's centennial celebration, summing up what I read in the library as a student, and responding to friends in the fields of civil engineering and surveying. It also features strong Liaoning influences from the Ming and Qing dynasties and the landscapes of Fujian.

The novel The Pearl Beyond the Pass blends science, literature, and metaphysics, and adapts the name of Liu Changchun, an outstanding long-distance-running alumnus of Northeastern University, into Liu Changqiu. His journey to see the sun again ends in a swift final passage through the mountains and waters of Fujian, concluding in Fresh Fujian.
