The Ma Family of the Ma Yi Tradition

Good and bad fortune, prosperity and misfortune: this is commonly known as physiognomy. It is a discipline that probes the mysteries of heaven and humanity, inviting the jealousy of gods and spirits. Among the many schools of physiognomy, one is especially mysterious and reputed to be the most accomplished: the Ma Yi Daoist School. More than a thousand years ago, its founder, the Daoist Ma Yi, wrote a remarkable book called The Art of Ma Yi Physiognomy. His disciple, Patriarch Chen Tuan, became famous throughout the land thanks to the book. Chen Tuan's disciple, Chen Yishan, later brought together the world's arts of divination, geomancy, medicine, astrology, the Qimen arts, and star lore, then wrote another remarkable book, The Records of Master Yishan. But half of the book was lost, leaving only the other half. Legend has it that only someone who reads the complete work can become the leader of the Ma Yi School: the Divine Physiognomist of Ma Yi. A thousand years later, The Records of Master Yishan has resurfaced, and a new Divine Physiognomist of Ma Yi is about to return to the martial world. Evil spirits, ghosts from the Ninefold Underworld, Maoshan Daoists, and adepts from Zhongnan are all on the move. In an instant, the winds shift and the clouds gather! Chen Yuanfang, a descendant of the Ma Yi Daoist School, is caught up in it all and encounters one strange, uncanny event after another.
