Reborn in 2017: A Deadly Ordeal and the Long Road Home

Li Xiaojun is a man plagued by misfortune. In 2024, he was hit with one devastating blow after another: a breakup, getting fired, and being struck by a car. Lying in a hospital bed, he was lost and helpless, terrified of what life had in store. When he went to the hospital rooftop to clear his head, a young nurse named Yang Xiaoli accidentally pushed him off. But then a miracle happened: they transmigrated back to 2017, landing aboard a 100,000-ton cargo ship in the Persian Gulf. The ship was caught in a storm, and the crew scattered in panic. Li Xiaojun and Yang Xiaoli clung to each other for their lives atop a floating shipping container, beginning a perilous struggle to survive at sea. Short of water, they bravely opened the container in the middle of the storm to search for supplies. After narrowly escaping death time and again, they washed up on a beach in the United Arab Emirates in the Middle East. Yang Xiaoli flatly refused to become a beggar, even though beggars here were said to earn 2,000 yuan a day. Taking in the sights and experiencing cultural differences, they resolutely decided to cross the desert on foot and begin their journey east. Along the way, they traveled through Pakistan and Nepal, reached the Mount Everest Base Camp, and then headed to Lhasa, Tibet. From Lhasa, they set off by bike, braving uninhabited regions and dangers such as altitude sickness. In Qinghai, they admired salt lakes as beautiful as jade. In Hoh Xil, they battled harsh conditions, facing a lack of food and water as well as the threat of wolves. At last, they arrived in Xinjiang, where they encountered traces of the Production and Construction Corps’ history, marveled at the beauty of Uyghur girls, and took in the grandeur of the Tianshan Mountains. But their adventure was not over. As descendants of Red Army soldiers, they decided to retrace the Long March in reverse and share their legendary story, inspiring young people around the world.
