The story takes place in the modern era of a parallel world that blends elements from several tomb-raiding settings, including Ghost Blows Out the Light, The Lost Tomb, and The Grave Robbers' Chronicles. The Zhang family can live forever. Members of the main branch have Qilin tattoos and special abilities, while those of the outer branch have Qiongqi tattoos and weaker abilities. The Wang family has phoenix tattoos but no special abilities, though it does have a department dedicated to calculations. The Matuo clan also has phoenix tattoos and special abilities, and other clans have their own tattoos and abilities. The various factions include both good and evil forces. Thousands of years ago, these clans all helped the Zhang family guard the Bronze Gate. The Zhang family makes martial arts its foundation, combining many supreme techniques with various powers and magical arts.
