Reborn: Dai Li’s Ultimate Spy Game

Dai Li, head of the Kuomintang's Military Statistics Bureau, died under circumstances that have long remained a mystery in Chinese history. According to search results, Dai Li died in a plane crash on March 17, 1946. The plane he was traveling on crashed at Mount Dai, west of Nanjing, and no one on board survived. There are several theories about his death:

1. Weather: The official explanation was that bad weather caused the accident, and the plane crashed into a mountain during a rainstorm.

2. The Ma Hansan murder theory: Some believe Dai Li was murdered in a plot devised by Ma Hansan, head of the Military Statistics Bureau's Beiping station. Dai Li had discovered Ma's corruption and betrayal, so Ma may have tampered with the plane to protect himself.

3. The Chiang Kai-shek murder theory: Others believe that Dai Li's influence had grown too powerful, and that Chiang Kai-shek may have taken part in his murder to bring the bureau under control.

4. Suicide: Some think Dai Li may have taken his own life because of overwhelming pressure.

5. The American agent murder theory: One theory suggests that American agents may have participated in his murder because they feared his actions would threaten American interests.

6. Other conspiracy theories: These include claims of an assassination linked to Soong Mei-ling, as well as the theory that Dai Li never died and chose to go into hiding instead.

The cause of Dai Li's death remains a mystery, with supporters and detractors for each theory. More historical records may come to light over time, but so far no definitive conclusion has been reached.
