This story was written from the recollections of several great-grandfathers and great-grandmothers in their eighties and nineties. It is set in a rural village in the northern mountains at the end of the Qing dynasty. Mi Gui’s family came from Shanxi. In that year, their hometown was hit by drought, forcing them to leave home and flee to the northern mountains. Mi Gui and his wife, Liu Xiuxiu, carried their belongings on shoulder poles, along with their two young children: their son, Pangen, and daughter, Huazhi. After entering the mountains, they eventually settled at the foot of Qingniu Ridge. No one lived there at the time. As more families arrived, the settlement where the Mi family lived came to be called Xiaoqihou Village. The story also recounts how Pangen and Huazhi built homes and made lives for themselves. It follows the changes in the Mi family’s life in the mountains over ten years, as well as the lives of all the characters during the farming era. Because the story is so long, it is difficult to sum up its full contents in a brief introduction. My new novel is here! You’re welcome to read it on Tomato Novel. I hope you enjoy it. Your support motivates me to write, and I’ll do my best to tell every story well!
