In 1993, the amnesiac little brother woke up in a Beijing hospital and was identified as Zhang Haiguan, the son of a professor who was believed to have died in a car accident. The professor treated him as his own, and he began a peaceful, carefree life. Over eight years together, surrounded by his father’s love, he gradually shed his taciturn nature and learned to express emotions more like an ordinary person. Little by little, he also let go of the idea of searching for his memories. However, when his father fell ill, he could no longer ignore the many lingering mysteries of his past. To find a cure for his father, he set out alone to discover his true identity... The author is writing this out of love. The whole story is told in first person, focuses on family, has no romantic pairing, and is set in 2001. It opens with the everyday life of a father and son. It is not a power fantasy, and some parts are quite lyrical. A few things to note: the story has almost no connection to the original work and includes many original characters, so they may feel out of character. First, the first-person narration includes a lot of detailed inner thoughts that were not present in the original. Second, the little brother will do his best to play the “Zhang Haiguan” he believes his father wants him to be, even though the role itself does not fit his character. Also, after eight years of being doted on by his elders, the little brother’s personality would inevitably change. In particular, around those closest to him, he will have more emotional thoughts and behaviors. Put simply, in a relaxed home with a kind father, he will act like an ordinary child. But he will retain all the little brother’s abilities, intelligence, and resourcefulness.
