Because my brother and sister-in-law weren't paying attention, my five-year-old nephew fell into the water. I saved him.
I never expected him to repay me, but years later, after failing to win over the girl he loved, he blamed all his resentment on me.
“If you hadn't called out to me that day, I wouldn't have been scared and fallen into the river. I wouldn't have been scraped by a log floating in the water, and I wouldn't have been disfigured.”
“If my face hadn't been ruined, everyone wouldn't have mocked me, and the girl I loved wouldn't have rejected me!”
My sister-in-law grabbed me by the collar and screamed too:
“My son was so handsome as a child! You couldn't have a son of your own, so you were jealous that I had one! You deliberately ruined his face to make our lives miserable!”
They slashed my face with a knife, then dragged me, barely alive, to a deserted mountain and buried me alive.
When I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day my nephew, while fooling around, fell into the river.
Watching him struggle in the water, I smiled calmly, turned around, and walked away.
