As it turns out, Liu Chuan is the only son of the richest man in the land. After squandering the family fortune, he has fallen into poverty and become a tutor, and is engaged to marry Qiu Yue, the prefect’s daughter, and join her family. But Qiu Yue dislikes the spendthrift young master Liu, while her father, the prefect, is a snob who wants to break off the engagement. A series of bloody murders rocks Yingtian Prefecture. Liu Chuan reveals extraordinary detective skills and becomes the younger apprentice brother of Zhuo Ran, a prince famed for solving cases. Qiu Yue, who is investigating the case on her father’s behalf, is unable to solve it and has no choice but to turn to Liu Chuan for help.
