Back then, Buddha Tathagata ordered Bodhisattva Guanyin to find a leader for the pilgrimage to the Western Heaven. Guanyin found Tang Xuanzang and gathered his disciples, Wukong, Bajie, and Sha Wujing. To test the master and his disciples, Tathagata set up eighty-one tribulations, then went around recruiting ingenious monsters to make them happen, promising them generous rewards once the job was done. Hu Dangdang endured humiliation without fear and never wavered in his resolve, ultimately earning his place. And so, carrying out Tathagata’s wishes, Hu Dangdang set off alone with his fairy wife to search the stars beyond the heavens for the missing demons and monsters. After enduring countless hardships, he finally received help from a mighty god beyond the heavens and obtained an unexpected treasure, which helped him achieve his goal...
