Mr. Lao She's book mainly describes the changes in the little sheepfold from the fall of Peking in 1937 to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in 1945 and everyone's attitude towards this painful war. Among the people in the little sheepfold, there are some who are staunch warriors, some who accept new ideas but have to fulfill their obligations to the old ethics, some who are hesitant and gradually become firm, and some who are willing to become traitors. This book is so wonderful! I especially like the character of Mrs. Qi. He has experienced so many wars but still remains optimistic. He can always find ways to deal with difficulties and firmly believes that the disaster in Peiping will not last more than three months. His tenacity and love for life are truly admirable. This book allowed me to see the lives of ordinary people in the historical context, and it also made me cherish the current peace more.
