Synopsis

This book was originally written by Mr. Lü Simian as a history textbook for students at an ordinary secondary school. Clear and accessible, it is “the gateway to gateways and the first step up the ladder” for anyone studying Chinese history.

Covering everything from ancient times through the year it was written, 1922, the book is divided into sections on ancient, medieval, early modern, modern, and contemporary history. It traces the eras from the Three Sovereigns and Five Emperors through the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties. Its subject matter includes specialized knowledge of history, geography, grammar, exegesis, and the detection of forgeries, as well as politics, economics, culture, institutions, and ethnic groups. It offers a comprehensive account of every era and a broad survey of every field.

The recommended reading list at the end also points the way for readers wishing to pursue further study and research in history and related subjects.

An Ordinary Educational Book

I'm looking for books like Teacher Changmao. Teacher Changmao really is an eye-opener! It's not just an ordinary book about education. It's more like having a witty, humorous elder use spear-like wisdom to hit education right where it hurts. Read
