The Jade Bracelet and Emerald Sleeves: A Wuxia Novel

Introduction to Wolong Sheng’s wuxia novel The Jade Bangle and Emerald Sleeve: The Jade Bangle and Emerald Sleeve is also known as The Twelve Demon Orders. Lan Tianyi, master of the renowned “First Family of Jiangdong,” is celebrated throughout the martial world as a great hero. But beneath his kind face lies a wicked heart: he is a rare villain, the likes of whom the martial world sees only once in a century. Lan Tianyi first tricks his wife out of the orthodox martial arts classic Golden Peak Elixir Manual and the demonic secret text Heavenly Demon Order. After twenty years of careful preparation, he secretly builds an evil force. He uses his sixtieth birthday banquet to set a trap and poison his guests, bringing martial artists under his control. Only “Soul-Chasing Laughter” Fang Xiumei and Jiang Xiaofeng defy his tyranny and fight their way out of his clutches. While fleeing, the two are fortunate to receive help from the eccentric martial master known as the “Bird King,” who removes the poison from their bodies. Jiang Xiaofeng also wins the Bird King’s favor, and the latter passes on the martial arts he spent his life perfecting. Lan Tianyi seeks to dominate the martial world, but his wife, Lady Lan, who surpasses him in both skill and wisdom, does everything she can to dissuade him, eventually turning the couple against each other. Meanwhile, Jiang Xiaofeng travels throughout the martial world, trying to expose Lan Tianyi’s schemes. He also gains the help of the extraordinarily clever Wang Xiu and the essence of Lady Lan’s martial arts.
