Synopsis

"The Phenomenology of Spirit" is the first major programmatic work in which Hegel, the master of classical German philosophy, expounds his philosophical views and methodological principles. Hegel regarded this book as the introduction to his philosophical system. Marx praised "The Phenomenology of Spirit" as "the true origin and secret of Hegel's philosophy" and "the Bible of Hegel's philosophy". Through this book, Hegel proposed that the phenomenology of spirit is a science about the path to achieve "absolute knowledge" or "science" (i. E. Philosophy). It provides individuals with a "ladder" to climb absolute knowledge. The Chinese translation was co-translated by He Lin and Wang Jiuxing, and was published by the Commercial Press in 1962 and 1979 respectively in the first and second volumes. When the first volume was republished in 1979, the translation was revised to be consistent with the translation of the second volume. This time, the "Complete Works of He Lin" edition was compiled and published. The revisions made in the reprinting were selected and the important ones were selected to preserve the original appearance of the first edition of the first volume in the form of editorial notes.
