Grandpa Visited Me in a Dream: Get a Part-Time Job in the Underworld!

At last, Lai Pi Sun, an aimless young man of the new century, got himself into trouble. He was fired by a publicly listed company, his girlfriend ran off with his money, and he nearly ended up on the streets. That night, Lai Pi Sun dreamed of his grandfather. “Dear grandson, Grandpa has finally earned enough merit and is about to ascend to the Immortal Realm. I’ve found you a job in the underworld.” “I’ve always loved you most of all.” “Don’t let Grandpa down. When your time comes, earn enough merit just like me and ascend to the Immortal Realm. I’ll be waiting for you there.” Who could have guessed? Lai Pi Sun reported for work that night, only to discover that the job his grandfather had arranged for him was at the Reincarnation Office. (For every ghost he processes for reincarnation, he earns one merit point. A thousand merit points can be exchanged for 1,000 yuan in the human world. And he is the underworld’s only experimental Reincarnation Office worker.) Grandpa, what are you playing at? This is an awful job, isn’t it? That is, until Lai Pi Sun discovers that ghosts can bribe him. Now that’s a real perk. They can offer property they left behind in the human world. They can offer antiques, paintings, calligraphy, and other treasures they left behind. They can even pass on all the knowledge and skills they learned while alive. In exchange, they get a good reincarnation, and Lai Pi Sun makes out like a bandit. Then one day: “What can I do for you?” Poor Ghost: “I want to reincarnate again.” Lai Pi Sun clattered away on the underworld computer, searching through its records. Then he asked in confusion, “Hey, didn’t you just reincarnate? How did you die so quickly?” The poor ghost was on the verge of tears. “I wanted to take a shot at being born into a rich family, but it didn’t work out.” “You were aborted?” Lai Pi Sun asked in shock. The poor ghost was beside himself with grief. “I crawled here through the sewer!”
