I opened my novel app and took a look. Every book on the shelf was a cultivation novel.
Scrawled crookedly across each one were the words “Ascend to immortality.”
I just couldn’t accept it. I pored over them late into the night, and only then did I make out the words hidden between the lines:
Every novel was full of “killing for treasure, heaven-defying opportunities, and scheming against one another.”
I thought about it for a long time. Did being an “immortal” really have to mean turning the clouds with a wave of your hand and stirring up storms with the next?
Did it have to mean being a tyrant who could move mountains and overturn seas at a moment’s notice?
Did it have to mean being one of those so-called cultivators, fighting for power and supremacy, leaving rivers of blood in their wake, and killing one another through schemes and counter-schemes?
I don’t even know what an immortal is.
But I want to write a story about seeking immortality. I’ll follow my heart and slowly sketch out the immortal I envision.
I want to find out what kind of immortal I’ll have imagined by the time I reach the end!
