Churchill's Memoirs of the Second World War, Vol. 2: Their Finest Hour

Churchill's Second World War Memoirs, Volume 2: Their Finest Hour recounts, in chronological form, the disastrous process by which France fell to German invasion in 1940 after a series of defeats in crucial battles. The fall of France had a grave impact on the course of the war. On one hand, the newly established Vichy government became a complete puppet of fascism, while the French people suffered under the invaders' heel. On the other, Germany's occupation of France left Britain facing the threat of a German crossing of the English Channel and an invasion of the British Isles. Writing as a decision-maker, the author gives a comprehensive account of little-known details from the course of the war, with particular attention to two major events of this period: the evacuation of Allied forces from Dunkirk and the British attack on the French fleet at Mers-el-Kebir.
