Extra sweet, satisfying, and full of comeuppance, with a happy ending. Dive in without worry. In the third year of Qihui, the female emperor has been on the throne for years, yet still has no harem or heirs. Her ministers are growing anxious, and each one puts forward his own son, hoping to arrange a selection ceremony for the emperor's consorts. Little do they know that deep in the night, within the Zijin Hall, the Emperor is being thoroughly tormented by the Imperial Preceptor, her eyes flushed red as she begs for mercy. The Imperial Preceptor says, “How dare you hold a consort selection behind my back? I alone can be your empress, and I alone may fill your harem!” The Emperor replies, “All right, all right. Tomorrow I shall issue an edict and welcome you into the palace, with the empire's vast lands as your dowry!” From then on, the Emperor discovers the joy of never attending morning court again. She abolishes the harem and dotes on the Imperial Preceptor alone. The people all sigh that the Imperial Preceptor is so fortunate. But when the Emperor hears this, she only smiles and shakes her head. It is not the Imperial Preceptor who is lucky, but she herself, lucky enough to be cherished by this person in both her lives.
