In the final years of the Yuan dynasty, internal power struggles at court grew fierce, corruption ran rampant, and forced labor and taxes weighed ever more heavily on the people, who suffered in dire misery. In 1344, natural and man-made disasters struck. The Yellow River flooded, leaving devastation and mourning in its wake. A folk ballad spread: “A stone man with one eye will stir the Yellow River and turn the whole realm against the throne!” In 1351, the court conscripted laborers to repair a breach in the Yellow River. While digging, they uncovered a stone man with one eye, fulfilling the ballad’s prophecy. Han Shantong and Liu Futong then raised the banner of revolt, and rebel armies sprang up across the land. With the realm in turmoil, this was an age ripe for heroes, and a brutal struggle for dominion over all was about to begin!
This book is one of the better ones I have read, and I like it.
Very well written! The plot is vivid and closely follows the pulse of history. The ups and downs of the world and the ups and downs of the world. Complying with the public opinion will ensure the peace of the country and the people. Worth a look!
