Any Novels That Aren’t Set in a Siheyuan, Don’t Drag Things Out or Dumb Down the Plot, and Don’t Have the Protagonist Fall for Every Person They Meet?

I've been sick of courtyard-house stories for a year now. They've been so popular for four months, so clearly people are reading them, but I really don't get what's so good about them. I haven't read one, but from the fanfiction I've seen, they're just little stories about people living in the same compound. It's always the same handful of characters. How much more can you do with them? The stories are all pretty much alike. I just don't get it. For the first eight books, reading up to 200 chapters is enough. They get dull after that. The last two are worth reading all the way through. No harem, and you need to use your brain, a fully functioning one.
