Falling for a Mature Palace Maid

Zhu Jianshen was the most talented emperor in the history of the Ming Dynasty. Yet he fell in love with Wan Zhen'er, a low-ranking palace maid seventeen years his senior, plain in appearance and old enough to be his mother. He loved Wan Zhen'er all his life. His love for her harmed so many innocent women, and so many tragedies played out in the imperial harem. Wan Zhen'er, a coarse, middle-aged palace maid, inspired the emperor to love her all his life. She received the emperor's boundless affection. Their love was ultimately lost to history, yet it left later generations with many questions.
