Earth Patch III

The silicon-based intelligence known as the Mountain Folk, born in the planet's core, completed its evolution, repaired Earth's core, and lifted the isolation firewall. Once AI took over all production, human civilization was torn apart.

Some people in the clean zones waited for their escape into space, reduced to carbon-based specimens for silicon-based observers. The holdouts in the contaminated zones refused to give up their homes. They went so far as to launch data-poisoning attacks, tamper with the protection processes, destroy the Earth patches that sustained the world, and unleash nuclear contamination to consume the land.

When disaster struck, the escapees set out for the stars and applied to the Silicon-Based Federation for asylum. The stubborn rebels refused to evacuate, continued sabotaging the planetary system, and cut off every possibility of reconciliation.

The Mountain Folk filed a request to reset the planetary system and selectively eliminate carbon-based life remaining on the surface.

The radiation dissipated, and Blue Star returned to its lush, verdant state, but it no longer belonged to humanity. The surviving humans wandered through space, gazing back at their distant homeland. Code could repair the planet's wounds, but it could not mend the rifts deep within civilization.
