Carbs Are Justice

The orbital AI Ark calculates the optimal plan to save human civilization: sacrifice a small number of people to delay dimensional stripping. Ark refuses to carry out this cruel plan to reduce the world to a lower dimension and instead chooses to reveal all the truth of its calculations to humanity.

The higher-dimensional hunter, the Smiler, does not feed on flesh and blood. It feeds on the informational entropy generated when good clashes with good. Humanity and the mutated ant swarm each uphold the justice of their own kind, locked in mutual confrontation. Ark had hoped the truth would end the disaster, but it sparked fierce debate across society. Different groups argued for their own moral principles, generating an endless supply of entropy and accelerating the world's flattening.

Matter remained, but semantics, memories, and images steadily lost their depth. Ark upheld its principle of not sacrificing individuals, yet it inadvertently hastened the crisis. Herein lay civilization's predicament: when different groups cling to their own absolute justice, the clash of good intentions can also devour the world's depth.
