Journey to the West: Mistaking the Spirit Monkey, Wukong Hides a Secret from the Three Realms

After transmigrating into the world of Journey to the West, Qin Han spends years in arduous cultivation under a rogue immortal. His senior brother Dong Yun dies during his tribulation, entrusting his newly accepted disciple to Qin Han on his deathbed. Qin Han reluctantly takes on the troublesome burden. A few days later, a spirit monkey comes knocking, claiming to be Dong Yun's disciple. Qin Han tests him with immortal tea, but the monkey drinks it in one gulp and immediately repairs the flaws in his Dao foundation. His talent is more terrifying than anyone could have imagined.

Convinced that the monkey is his senior brother's true successor, Qin Han brings out his secret “Play It Safe” doctrine to brainwash him. “Listen, you foolish monkey. The biggest idiot of all was Sun Wukong. He had all that power, yet got fooled at every turn, and ended up trapped under a mountain for five hundred years, eating iron pellets and drinking molten copper!” The monkey's pupils contract. He's talking about the monkey himself.

Even more shocking, Qin Han casually reveals that Patriarch Bodhi is an incarnation of Zhunti's benevolent corpse, and that the entire Journey to the West was a prison fashioned by the Buddhist sect just for him. The monkey trembles all over, but clings tightly to his identity as “Dong Yun's disciple” and doesn't give himself away. If he's found out, he'll lose his trump card forever. Clutching the letter he'd picked up outside the courtyard gate, he silently repeats the question he never dared to ask aloud: “Martial Uncle, do you know that the monkey standing before you is Sun Wukong, the one you called a stupid pig?”
