Siheyuan: Standing Up to Old Deaf Granny and Exposing Her Schemes for Old Age Care

Reborn in 1953, Silly Zhu opens his eyes and first makes sure he's still alive. The memories of his last life are etched into his bones: Qin Huairu drained his savings, Bang Geng kicked him out, and he froze to death beneath a bridge, where wild dogs ate him. He locks the door and starts reviewing everything. He Daqing hasn't run off, Yi Zhonghai hasn't become the Number One Master, and the deaf old lady isn't pretending to be deaf. There's still time to change everything. When the old lady follows the smell of pork to his door, hoping to test him by cadging a meal, Silly Zhu no longer tries to win her over as he did in his last life. Playing dumb, he says "I'm not hungry" three times, forcing her to go to Yi Zhonghai's place. Then he heads into the space farm that came with his rebirth: dozens of acres of black soil, fishponds, cattle and sheep, a courtyard house, and a warehouse where time stands still. There's enough grain, meat, and eggs to go around, and he can even grow his own seasonings. By the time He Daqing gets off work, Silly Zhu has steamed cornbread, cooked millet porridge, and sliced potatoes, all ready to fry. He Daqing is startled by the change in his son's eyes. "What's gotten into you today? You're acting like a different person." Silly Zhu adds another piece of firewood without looking back. "Dad, I just want to ask you one thing. If you ever dare run off with a widow, I'll break your legs."
