War of Resistance: With a Safe House, I Raid a Japanese Squad at Night

Chen Beixuan, administrator of an S-class safe house at the Military Intelligence Headquarters, had been an elite lone-wolf agent before retiring. One day, while on duty, an alien energy module blasted him through time to the deep mountains on the border of three provinces in 1939. All he had left was a Glock 45 and thirty-eight rounds of ammunition.

He had barely figured out what was going on when he ran into a Japanese army company besieging a guerrilla unit that had run out of ammunition. The county battalion had already drawn their broadswords, ready to die in a final bayonet charge. At the critical moment, he discovered that he could retrieve the entire arsenal from his safe house at any time: HK416 assault rifles, M249 light machine guns, quad-tube night-vision goggles, reconnaissance drones. A modern, two-thousand-square-meter armory had become his portable cheat.

That night, aided by night-vision goggles, he slipped into the Japanese positions alone and picked off his targets one by one with a suppressed rifle: grenade-launcher crews, machine gunners, and outer sentries. He precisely tore open the blockade. When the guerrillas broke through, all they saw was Japanese heavy weaponry silenced and a perfect gap ripped in the defensive line. Ma Chenghan stared at the bodies littering the ground and muttered, "What kind of god have we brought here?"

Chen Beixuan slung his rifle, pulled out the radio from his safe house, and began tuning it. "Hello, Headquarters? I need a map of 1939."
