Siheyuan: I Can Hear the Echoes of Old Things

Shen Yan wakes up to find himself the new tenant of Courtyard No. 95 in the capital.

The original owner came from a family of martyrs. At seventeen, he arrived alone with his relocation papers, expecting to face a courtyard full of vile schemes and beastly behavior.

But Shen Yan is not only tough-tempered and ruthless. He also has an uncanny gift: old objects can speak, and he can hear the secrets of all things.

Touch an old pocket watch, and he hears long-buried secrets. Lift a chipped paving stone, and he finds a treasure box at the bottom of a well. Turn an ancient jade over in his hands, and he opens a direct connection between the black market in the eastern part of the city and the antique bureau at Qianmen!

When the Jia family throws tantrums and leeches off others, and the courtyard elders abuse their seniority, Shen Yan never gives an inch. He specializes in dealing with ingrates. He also gives Silly Zhu a hand and cuts off Qin Huairu's means of leeching off him.

In an era of severe shortages, Shen Yan uses his ears and hands to go from the courtyard's daily chaos to uncovering antiques, collecting old goods, and working behind the scenes.

Along the way, he even wins over the gentle yet sharp-tongued teacher Lin from the rear courtyard, who blushes and leaves a window open for him in the dead of night.
