Skin and Body as One

In the third month after I moved into this rental, I found a corpse deep inside the wardrobe, its face exactly like mine.

She wore a dress I often wore and a hair clip I’d lost ages ago. Even the faint mole at the corner of her eyebrow matched mine perfectly.

An unfamiliar text suddenly appeared: She died in your place. You’re next.

A key turned softly outside the door, but I had never given anyone a key.

From that day on, my life began to be devoured piece by piece.

Someone used my identity to go to work, socialize, and even get close to the people I cared about.

I lived in fear and suspicion, unable to tell who around me was real and who was fake.

When two identical versions of me stood together in the sunlight,

only one body could make it to the end.

And the price was the other person’s complete annihilation.
