In the Name of the People: I, Yan Shifan, Rebuild Handong's Officialdom

Yan Shifan opens his eyes and discovers he has become Gao Yuliang, deputy secretary of the Handong Provincial Party Committee in the twenty-first century. Once a powerful minister who wielded absolute authority and ultimately lost his head, he must now contend with a whole new set of political rules: democratic centralism, governing according to law, and public servants serving the people.

Yan Shifan smiles.

"Good. Very good. This time, I'm going to play by different rules."

On one hand, he draws on the wisdom of Ming dynasty fiscal reforms to propose Handong Free Trade Zone 2.0, leaving Li Dakang dumbfounded. On the other, he uses the balancing tactics of the Jiajing court to counter Sha Ruijin's relentless pressure, leaving Hou Liangping with nothing to investigate. He also adapts the Ming dynasty's "People's Benefit Pharmacies" and "Community Granary System" for modern use, improving people's livelihoods so quickly that the entire province is stunned.

When Zhao Ruilong tries to recruit him to his face, Yan Shifan burns the agreement for a share of the profits right in front of him. "This time, I don't need money. I want my name remembered in the history books."

When Qi Tongwei tries to make himself Yan Shifan's right-hand man, Yan Shifan gives him a cold warning. "Know who Hu Zongxian was? The more capable you are, the more you have to worry about following the wrong person."
