Aspirations of the Long Song

A thousand years ago, the War of the Six Realms brought humans, immortals, demons, and ghosts into being. They slaughtered one another in a bid to rule the Six Realms, leaving no survivors. The remains and souls of all the dead were buried at the edge of the Six Realms, awaiting reincarnation.

A thousand years later, life in the mortal world was beset by birth, aging, sickness, and death, and the people lived in misery. Jin Cangsheng, a mortal, broke the laws of Heaven by peeking into the Book of Life and Death and examining the cycle of life and death, hoping to change his own fate. He learned of his past-life ties and married Qingluan Jin, a mortal of the human world.

Qingluan Jin had once been a celestial maiden in the service of the Queen Mother of the West. When Jin Cangsheng learned this, he did everything he could to win his beloved's heart. Every day, he went to the Queen Mother's bedchamber and clung to Qingluan Jin. When the Queen Mother learned of this, she flew into a rage and ordered them thrown into the heavenly prison. With no other choice, Jin Cangsheng and Qingluan Jin fled to the mortal world.

When the Queen Mother learned they had escaped to the mortal world, she sent heavenly soldiers and generals to capture them. Qingluan Jin was taken back to Heaven, where the Jade Emperor, the Queen Mother, and the other immortals put her on trial and sentenced her to five hundred years in the heavenly prison, forbidden to set foot outside.
