Two Abbots in the Mortal World

This is a long novel about Buddhist teachings. The two protagonists, Master Jixiang and Master Huixin, were fellow practitioners in a previous life. In this life, they become the abbots of Prajna Temple and Jile Temple, respectively. As the tides of the times sweep over them, they reflect on Buddhism and life and make different choices, ultimately reaching different ends. Master Jixiang remains unmoved by fame, fortune, and beauty. He perseveres in ascetic practice, diligently observes the precepts, and saves all living beings, ultimately attaining sainthood. Master Huixin, however, is ensnared by fame, fortune, and beauty, and eventually falls into the Avici Hell. In the end, Master Jixiang saves him, and he is reborn in the Pure Land. The prose is smooth, the Buddhist teachings are explained in accessible terms, and the story is full of twists and turns.
