Investiture of the Gods: Calamity of the Three Realms

After Pangu created Heaven and Earth, the Three Realms were first divided. Gods, immortals, humans, demons, devils, and ghosts all shared the world, but order was in chaos and there was no leader. Demons and devils ran rampant, and the mortal realm was filled with misery. Though the gods in the Heavenly Palace felt compassion, the laws of Heaven prevented them from intervening directly. To bring peace to this chaotic age, the gods decide to launch the Investiture of the Gods once more, selecting mortal cultivators to wield the Mandate of Heaven and reshape the laws of the Three Realms.

The protagonist, Gu Bushen, was originally a knight-errant in the mortal realm. When his beloved Qing Yao is captured by demons and devils, he furiously sets out on the path of cultivation. After a thousand years of arduous training, enduring nine tribulations of heavenly lightning and trials in the Netherworld, he finally becomes an Immortal Venerable. But he learns that Qing Yao's soul is imprisoned by the Nine Nether Ghost King, and that only a place on the Investiture of the Gods can bring her back to life. Meanwhile, undercurrents stir among the powers of the Three Realms: the Demon King joins forces with the Devil King to overthrow the Heavenly Court, the Jade Emperor and the Queen Mother of the West secretly vie to secure their power, while the reclusive immortal sect Nine Mystic Gate and the Candle Qilin Clan each pursue their own designs.

Gu Bushen joins his close friends Tiangang Yun, Qianxin, and others to slay demons and devils. Along the way, he meets the aloof sword immortal Yan Dushen and the morally ambiguous poison cultivator Candu, and even his nemesis Jiang Di, from his previous life
