Drunk Beneath Mountains and Rivers, Intoxicated by the World

Once upon a time, there was a mountain. At its foot lay a village, where a boy named Yang Wuyou lived.

The mountain was called Yang Mountain. It was rich in rare flowers and plants, and stood near the meeting point of the Greater Khingan Range, the Lesser Khingan Range, and the Qinling Mountains. Its natural resources were abundant.

Since childhood, Yang Wuyou had followed the village elders into the wilderness to search for game, which he took to the market on market days to sell for pocket money.

Lingzhi mushrooms, wild ginseng, cliff honey, rare flowers and plants, shed antlers, beast fangs and claws, mountain delicacies, and precious monkey wine.

They were laid out at his street stall like treasures from a magic box.

Meanwhile, an expedition led by Professor Wu, a botanist, hoped to explore a place on Yang Mountain called Wildman Ravine and find the legendary Seven-Colored Lotus Pool.

It was said that the drops of water formed by the seven-colored lotus in that mysterious pool were called Guanyin's Dew, and could bring the dead back to life and restore flesh to bare bones.

Old Yang puffed on his pipe and spun tales to Professor Wu, leaving him utterly spellbound. Hearing the legend of the mysterious Seven-Colored Lotus Pool in Wildman Ravine filled the several inexperienced graduate students accompanying him with longing.
