Siheyuan: Cats, Dogs, and Pigeons

Ke Jianyue is gentle by nature and helps her father sell smoked chicken at home. Lately, however, her father has been following her around. The reason is that Ke Jianyue has fallen for Chang Sheng, the son of a magician who lives in the same courtyard. Old Ke looks down on the Chang family, believing they are beneath even stage performers. Chang Sheng in particular is a good-for-nothing who keeps countless pets in the courtyard, from pigeons to dogs, and doesn't even have a proper job.

But Chang Sheng has actually found a way to make money with his pets. He starts a pet agency, renting them out to theater troupes and film crews for performances. With the money he earns, Chang Sheng buys Ke Jianyue a necklace and a dress.

A local hoodlum named Huang Liu, who lives in the same alley, has his eye on Ke Jianyue's beauty.
