In the final years of the Warring States period, the Eastern Zhou dynasty was utterly caught up in the struggle for supremacy among the various states. Each feudal state began recruiting talent from across the land on a grand scale to serve its own ends. The great states hoped that wise men would join them, help them dominate the realm, and ultimately unify it. The smaller states, meanwhile, hoped to recruit talent to ensure their survival and avoid being annexed by the great powers. It was during this time that the Four Lords of the Warring States emerged: Lord Mengchang, Lord Pingyuan, Lord Chunshen, and Lord Xinling. Through this novel, the author hopes to recreate that era of contention among the Hundred Schools of Thought.
