Siheyuan: I'm the Mastermind Behind It All

A different kind of courtyard tale: lighthearted, funny, and low on hostility.

One day, Bang Geng came home with his test paper and said excitedly, "Grandma, Mom, I got 99 points!"

Qin Huairu: "What? Only 99? Looks like you need a good beating."

Jia Zhangshi: "You have the nerve to bring that home without a perfect score? You're asking for a beating."

Then Qin Huairu and Jia Zhangshi teamed up to beat him, and Bang Geng's cries rang through the whole courtyard.

One day, Bang Geng came home with a bruised and battered face.

Seeing him, Qin Huairu snapped, "You got into a fight with a classmate again? So you didn't take what I said to heart."

Jia Zhangshi had already picked up a whip. "Why waste time talking? Let's get to it."

Poor Bang Geng was beaten by the two of them before he even had a chance to explain.

Years later, Bang Geng thought back on his dark childhood. "Ever since that day, my mom and grandma beat me for all kinds of reasons. They didn't care whether I was right or wrong.

A small beating every three days, a big one every five."
