As for lords, I think Civilization: Lords of All Realms is very well written.
The writing is okay. I suggest you replace the things you bring in with things that must be produced from the small world. Nowadays, you can bring anything. Why not bring machine guns, cannons, drones, cloud bombs and other high-destructive weapons?
