The World Seen with That Eye
About This Novel
Introduction: The truth seen by those eyes I was born in Taipei in 1986. For as long as I can remember, the world has been an afterimage of double exposure for me - next to the curls of green smoke where my grandma twists incense to worship, squatting "good brothers" with vague faces; on the rusted iron rolling door of my father's hardware shop, there are traces of water during the day, and whispers as thick as oil seep out at night. My family regarded me as a "debt collector" and a "monster". So I learned to be silent, and between the mantras and the white eyes, I grew into a lonely figure that was incompatible with both worlds. Until 2007, the underground restricted book section of the university library. I came across a heavily moth-eaten Latin manuscript in the pile of waste paper to be disposed of. When my fingertips traced the runes outlined with blood and silver powder, a cold phosphorescence emerged in the darkness - at that moment I understood that I was not a monster, but a "key". One pair of eyes can see and pick all hidden "locks".
