Before I Transmigrated, I Was a Respectable Person

Li Mo, male, 26, unemployed. He'd been locked up twice, blocked by three ex-girlfriends, and owed his landlord four months' rent. But deep down, he thought of himself as a decent guy.

Then an accident made him transmigrate.

The first thing he saw when he opened his eyes: the bath at the mansion of a prince's daughter. His first move: getting knocked unconscious by a copper basin. His first charge: lechery.

He opened his mouth to explain, but the more he said, the more it sounded like an excuse. He tried to run, but his legs went weak. He tried to play dead, but someone revived him by dumping a basin of water over him. He tried to win the young lady's favor and make amends, but every time he did something nice, it hit exactly the wrong note. Bringing her pastries was taken as an attempt to poison her, passing on a warning was mistaken for a trap, and rescuing her was taken for kidnapping. The young lady's opinion of him went from “lech” to “persistent, unkillable lech.”

His daily life:

• Tries to be a decent guy → gets wanted by the whole city

• Tries to earn some travel money → gets dragged into a conspiracy at the prince's mansion

• Tries to win a girl's favor → gets chased by her with a knife

• Tries to stay out of things → everyone keeps looking for him

The prince wants him dead, the young lady wants him gone, and a swordswoman from the martial world beats him up every time she sees him. Yet he has a hard life, and every time he finds himself in a desperate situation, he somehow stumbles his way out, accidentally turning everyone else's schemes into a complete mess along the way. Gradually, he discovers a cruel truth:

In this world, the harder he tries to be a good person, the more he seems like a jerk. But when he completely gives up on himself and starts slacking off, everyone thinks he's unfathomably deep.

The prince's daughter begins to wonder if she misjudged him. After the swordswoman beats him up, she can't help looking back. Even the mysterious female official who swore she'd kill him to silence him secretly leaves him a way out.
