I Transmigrated to Great Yan and Became a Royal Consort, but My Ambition Remains Unfulfilled

Other transmigrators become princes or lords, wielding privilege and even carrying a System with them, thriving every step of the way.

Ye Xun transmigrated to Great Yan, only to become the legitimate fourth son of Ye Wenyuan, the Left Chancellor of the First Rank.

He had no golden finger, just the mind of an ordinary high school student. He could barely remember forty or fifty poems, along with a few pieces of classical prose like the Preface to the Pavilion of Prince Teng and the Record of Yueyang Tower, and he was not even sure he could recite them in full.

He had planned to study hard for a year, sit the autumn examinations, and pursue the proper path of a scholar-official on the strength of his talent, chasing his lofty ambitions.

Then an imperial edict shattered all his plans.

He was granted in marriage to Princess Murong Mingzhu, the empress's most beloved tenth daughter.

They had been childhood sweethearts. The empress had long been seeking a suitable match for Mingzhu among the sons of high-ranking ministers, but nobody expected her to choose him in the end.

Once he entered Princess Mingzhu's residence, the estate belonged to the royal family. He had to pay his respects four times each day, at dawn, noon, dusk, and night, according to protocol. If he wanted to see the princess, he first had to seek permission through Nanny Su.

The ancestral rules were ironclad: a princess's husband could not enter the central government, command troops, or serve as a regional governor.

There were also rumors in Luojing that certain secrets within princesses' residences were too shameful to reveal. Even if a princess's husband suffered an injustice, he dared not speak out, or he would be showing disrespect to the imperial family.

Everyone said he had struck it lucky by marrying a noblewoman of the imperial house.

Only Ye Xun understood:

Other transmigrators rode the clouds to greatness, while he had been locked inside a gilded cage inlaid with jade.

Though his mind brimmed with poetry, he dared not show it lightly. Though his heart brimmed with ambition, he was hemmed in at every turn.

He did not want to rebel, nor did he want to be a puppet at others' mercy.

Within the narrow gaps in the rules of propriety, all he could do was wield etiquette as a shield and wisdom as a spear, struggling to preserve his character and dignity.
