After losing a war, a highly advanced alien civilization fled to Jupiter. To carry out its ecological transformation plan for Earth, it scattered a specially engineered interstellar virus across the planet. The virus determines the chance of infection based on its concentration in the air. High-concentration regions readily give rise to mutated monsters, while humans can still survive in low-concentration environments. The disaster shattered humanity’s technological progress and sent society’s order crashing down. A handful of survivors awakened supernatural abilities as the virus selected the strong, and struggled to stay alive.
The Ark United Government is humanity’s foremost remaining force for protection. Most of its members are driven by a belief in safeguarding civilization, though a few among them harbor extreme ambitions. To cope with the complex conditions of the apocalypse, the government has chosen to allow and regulate the gray black market to some extent, providing a channel for goods, intelligence, and specialized supplies from forbidden zones. As long as it stays within certain limits, these gray-market channels are allowed to operate, and in desperate times they can prove a vital support for official teams.
Lin Yan, captain of Ark Team 073, has a rare, half-awakened zombie mutation that makes him immune to mental attacks and grants him powerful regenerative abilities. He leads his ability-wielding team deep into a deadly forbidden zone and infiltrates a flesh-and-blood mothership. After fierce battles, they successfully retrieve a nuclear fuel sample containing the secrets of the mother organism. But everyone knows the deep-sea behemoth has not been destroyed, and the crisis is far from over.
Next, they will head into the city’s underground sewers to seize vital, high-risk antiviral drugs. Later, they will venture into the deep sea, swamps, and polar regions, facing one faction after another: deep-sea technologists, insectoid gene-modified humans, Jupiter’s alien remnants, and more.
Monsters run rampant, factions vie for power, and traps litter the road ahead. But this is not an utterly hopeless apocalypse. Humanity still has a chance to turn the tables.
