The Phoenix Shakes the Heavens

She looks at the three characters above her head that seem destined to crush her for the rest of her life: Yan Leng Palace.

Behind her, the palace gates slam shut with a heavy clang.

Lan Yun is bewildered. The feeling of dying is still so vivid, so how did she open her eyes to find herself the only daughter of Empress Shengyuan of the Dayuan Kingdom, Princess Wuyou?

Three days ago, the entire clan of Empress Shengyuan, Liu Yinghua, was executed. Liu Yinghua herself was given poisoned wine that same day, and when she died, she was five months pregnant.

What awaits her is not the lofty, honored status of an imperial princess born of the empress, but a life imprisoned in confinement, never to be pardoned.

She looks up at the small patch of sky above her.

Lan Yun slowly closes her eyes. Imprisoned for life, never to be pardoned... But she's only seven years old.

Within the ninefold palace, she schemes and plots for a patch of free blue sky above her.

She never meant to, but she stirs the spring breeze. A phoenix cries, and the world is shaken!

(Note: Feng is an abbreviation for phoenix. The male is called feng and the female huang, but the two are often used interchangeably and collectively referred to as feng. The title uses feng in this collective sense. This note is provided for clarity.)
